The Malaysian Minister of Plantation Industries spoke exclusively to the World Refinning Association ahead of the Asian Biofuels Roundtable to be held in Malaysia at 23-25 March.

It is interesting that there is no discussion of prior informed consent of the people who live in the land and who may not be farmers. He is exactly right though in terms of the EU’s sustainability criteria and how they should integrate with WTO and be science based. Should the Malaysian position on biodiversity be equally science based. If it isn’t and it is probably debateable tot he degree that it does conform to prinicples of sustainabilty and biodiversity, does that matter if it is a case of feeding people and ensuring economic prosperity?

FREE 200 litres fat / oil Port Macquarie / Kempsey
FREE - take it away

I have a couple of hundred litres (20 litre drums) of remains of oil collections, some frytol I collected, fats and oil from separated oils.

Not sure of the condition but generally it might be classed as lower quality.

This is stuff left after I separate the good oil off the top.

If you want it for bio let me know and we can arrange something.

Giveaway of course or it might go to landfill.

Could be seen as fun or a challenge………..

Glycerin Trap Method

The reactor that my father and I designed is a new idea in glycerin extraction. The 60 Gallon cone-bottom reaction tank is made of polished stainless steel with a 30 degree angle. It has a 1 1/4″ drain that goes into a Y-connector, a ball valve, and finally a 10 Gallon polished stainless steel dual-cone tank. The lower tank then also has a 1 1/4″ drain that runs back up to the top of the reaction tank and is pumped with a 1/2 hp (360 Watt) Jet Pump.

With this setup we can circulate our bio-diesel in order to mix it thoroughly with the methoxide and when it becomes thoroughly mixed we can shut off the circulation loop and leave the valve between the top and bottom tanks open. Since our batch size is around 60 gallons and 12% of the reacted oil is glycerin, we calculated that there is about 8 gallons of glycerin in 60 gallons of vegetable oil. Thus, when the glycerin settles out it will settle to the lowest point and will only be in the lower tank. After all the glycerin settles out, we shut the ball valve in between the tanks and turn on the pump that moves the good fuel to the wash tank through the Y-connector at the bottom of the tank before the ball valve.

From what I’ve seen this method of removing the glycerin from the good fuel has not been used before. This is only the reaction tank and glycerin trap. Our wash tanks are made with a sprinkler mounted to the top cover that spins and sprays into the wash tank so it both mixes mechanically and sprays water from the top.

I am really looking for feedback on this type of processor. If you have anything to say about it I will accept all feedback.

Thanks for reading.
