Isopropyl alcohol for titration?
Does anyone know where I would find reasonably-priced isopropyl alcohol for titration? Back home (Canada), every drugstore had rubbing alcohol for like $3.00 a bottle. I went to a pharmacy here and their “rubbing alcohol” was 2% methylated spirits. Finally, I went to Bunnings and got 100%…

Finally, I went to Bunnings and got 100% isopropyl alcohol, but it was $11 for 125mL
MPG Problem
The 1988 toyota corolla with 1.8L 1C diesel engine has been running on Just Diesel+Injector cleaner for more than 2 weeks now, it does 13.9km/L which is about 40MPG. and I used to have a 1 Liter 3 cylinder petrol charade, it did 45-46MPG. I thought the 1.8 1C and 2L 2C engine can do 45MPG(not…
I thought the 1.8 1C and 2L 2C engine can do 45MPG(not confirmed, Have you guys had one of these before?). so what’s wrong with the one I got.
I have changed engine oil,oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, tires pumped to the max.
The only thing i can think of is the Fuel Injector maybe bit worn?
Also the engine does smoke lot during cold start up and it does leak bit externally(been monitoring for two weeks now, hardly burn any oil and does not leak to the floor), would this be a reason too?
Not really too fussy about the MPG, but just in case maybe there is something could easily be fixed.

My troopy being a older style diesel tends to blacken the engines lube oil quickly.
I have tried some off the shelf stuff to clean out the engine but there was no change.
I’m about to do a service, so I may try something different to give the lube system a good clean out.
There are several products[thinners, metho, kero diesel, bio] that could thin out the oil but will they do anything to the seals?
There is also the idea that after the oil is drained, the lube system could be filled up with the thinner and let sit for a period of time before draining.
It would be cool if the flush liquid could then be used in a blend.
What do you all think and what have you tried?
God bless froggo.

I’m newbie on this WVO knowledge, just having chance of searching on the internet, without implement it yet.
I’m interested on this WVO implementation, especially on the Diesel genset.
Sorry If I start with genset, since I don’t have diesel car yet, just a gasoline car. But I would like to see it run on the diesel engine.
So far I got the knowledge as below:
- Always better to use dual tank, one for petroldiesel (for start and purge), and one for WVO.
- Heat the WVO up to 80 deg C before going to the injector pump.
- Remove the particle and water inside the WVO.
So, if I start to run the collecting of WVO, do the filtering using cloth or oil filter, and then heating to lowering its viscosity, put on the Centrifugal Filter, will those WVO really clean to be used into the engine?
What about the water it consist at the beginning, will it be dispossed as well using this CF filter?
If that WVO is really clean and put into the heater (heating by coolant), go to 3-way valve (to start + stop using diesel), and go to the engine, will the polimerization problem hapened, and causing the injector, piston rings problems?
Based on the experience, when using those dual tank and heating up to 80 deg C, is there any experience problem with that so far that causing the engine failure, engine wear excessively?
Sorry if too much asking, since I need this and get prepared before I buy the diesel genset and implement the WVO on it.
Many thanks for your help.

Nissan Navara on Bio? NoGo?

I think my mum and dad may have posted something on the Brisbane Biofuels forum about their Navara, but basically after 6 months of running on straight Bio, she conked out and wouldn’t start . It was towed rather expensively back to town where it sat for a long time before being investigated. The mechanic’s first response was “Blame it on the Bio”. Wow. This mechanic is good - he doesn’t even have to open the bonnet and he knows what’s wrong with it
Still, they somehow determined that the injector pump was the source of the problem. Quite likely that the injector pump has components which may be damaged by bio, however until it is taken out and inspected there is no way of knowing.
What do you folks reckon? They were quoted $6500 to replace the part. Or $500 for the part and $6000 for the workshop Christmas party?
Is this part located in a spot where only a gyaenecologist could get it out, or are we being fleeced???
Cheers,
CHRIS

I’ve searched extensively for information on this vehicle, but haven’t been able to find anything relating to biodiesel. The engine on this truck is very advanced and computer controlled at every turn, and GMC recommends using a maximum of 10% biodiesel in it. I’m sure this is just for liability reasons due the relative total lack of regulation on biodiesel standards, especially here in Texas. I imagine that it must be possible to run this truck on biodiesel, and I’m wondering what sort of work will be necessary to tune this kind of engine to run biofuels. It is used extensively for towing heavy equipment, so the amount of emissions are terrible. Here’s a short description of the engine;
2007i Duramax Diesel 6.6L V-8 Turbo ( LMM )
Type: Duramax 6.6L V-8 turbo-diesel
Displacement: 6599cc
Compression ratio: 16.8:1
Valve configuration: overhead valves (4 valves per cylinder)
Assembly site: Moraine, Ohio
Valve lifters: mechanical roller
Firing order: 1 - 2 - 7 - 8 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 3
Bore x stroke: 103 x 99mm
Fuel system: direct-injection diesel with high pressure common rail
And here’s an extensive article on the design of the engine;
Any information is greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance.
- Nick
