What’s Cutting edge now?
All the time lately i am reading the same stuff over and over about the same things. The newbies keep going over the same old ground and i am noticing the people that know what they are doing are getting bored with the same things talked about over and over and hardly bother posting any of the good…
The same old things with Collecting, filtering, making processors and biodiesel all is talked about over and over again but what is the latest developing methods?
if you know what you are doing with the normal things, what else is there to learn or is new with veg oil fuels for the average person who does it at home?
It used to be fun learning about this stuff but lately it is all the same and I’d like to know what is a new technology with this that is realistic that a person could experiment with and develop?
Has anyone heard of some new and praktical thing that other people are doing with veg that has a benifit or is worthwhile doing?
I hope my writing is up to the requirements of posting on this site after going over and over it but if anyone thinks my writing is like a 3rd grader maybe they could tell me at the next biodiesel picnic ( if this place lasts long enough to organize 1) and they could help me out by telling me where exactly they think i’m going wrong and we could have a chat about it to help me out and maybe we could educate each other on some things.
Question regarding Peugeot 405
First of all hello everybody! I’m a newbie to these forums and from what I’ve seen it seems like a very helpful community

So anyway, a few years ago in a high school chemistry class i was introduced to biodiesel, and now my family recently bought a 1997 Peugeot 405 Turbo Diesel in great condition I am looking into running this car on homemade biodiesel.
I have a background in chemistry so I am up to speed with the making of the biodiesel and have people who can help me with the set up but…
I know nothing about cars! I know that there are certain things that need to be taken into account before running a car on biodiesel, mainly to do with fuel injectors and such. Im not sure if the fuel pump/injector (whichever it is) on this model car contains rubber seals or anything like that which would be degraded by biodiesel. I heard from someone who uses biodiesel that some newer fuel pumps are piston type pumps with rubber seals.
So basically my question is, does anyone have a similar model Peugeot and know what i need to do before I can run this car on biodiesel? Or does anyone know where i can find this information from?
I’m looking to find out this information before I go any further with this project.
Any help you could offer me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

When I started using BD I bought a CAV filter adaptor and keep it in the glovebox. However so far I have am still using the original filters I bought the truck with approx 4K ago.
Anybody else out there with experience using BD in 1HZ motors ?

McDonald’s to power police cars
- July 30, 2008 - 7:03AM
Police in the Philippines are looking to convert their patrol cars to run on a mixture of diesel and used cooking oil from McDonald’s, officials and the company said on Tuesday.
With oil prices at crippling highs, the project would convert cars in the Makati financial district of Manila to run on a mix of 40 per cent diesel and 60 per cent cooking oil, police chief Senior Superintendent Gilbert Cruz said.
Used cooking oil will be donated by Makati outlets of the hamburger giant, said McDonald’s franchising manager Buth Salaya.
Other restaurants are also considering donating their used cooking oil as well, Cruz said.
One police car has been converted to use the diesel/cooking oil mixture and is already in use, and the government is studying how viable it is to convert more vehicles.
“It’s a win-win situation for us because we will both benefit,” Cruz said. “The cooking oil of their Makati stores will be re-used and the Makati police will use it as a component for their biodiesel and also save money.”
The head of police forces in the capital Manila, Geary Barias, said that if the project is successful, he may recommend it being adopted by police forces across the Philippines.

Just a few weeks ago a friend bought a bag and said the price was then around $73.
The KOH is ex China. The price hike is said to be caused by factory closures for the Olympics to cut smog, and so causing shortages and price hikes.
So either stock up now if your supplier hasn’t been hit by the rise or hold off until after the Olympics have finished and everything returns to normal.
Will the price actually come back down again? Probably not.

G’day all, informative and well laid out forum you have here. I thought I’d share my tale of woe and ask for input. I have a ‘99 2.8 TD Rodeo with about 165,000kms on the clock. About 5 weeks ago I purchased a 200l drum of commercially produced BD from a local manufacturer. (Located in Mossman, just north of Cairns, Far North Queensland) Just before this I had serviced the vehicle and replaced the fuel filter. The replacement filter was aftermarket, not Ryco but made by the company which now owns Ryco. A mate of mine is a rep for a parts and oil distributor and gets me all my bits at a good price.
I topped up my tank with the BD and took about 120 litres of it with me on the back of the ute on a holiday to the Gold Coast. I drove pretty much non-stop, pausing only for refuelling and personal pit stops and got to the GC in 23 hours. The ute ran noticeably smoother on the BD. I spent 3 weeks away from home during which time I also drove down to Sydney to tow back a boat. In all, I drove about 8000kms in the three weeks. The first approx. 1500kms of this was done on BD, the rest on the usual stuff out of the bowsers.
I got home last week and topped up my tank with BD again, probably 70% BD in with the existing fuel. I drove down the mountain range to Cairns (about 30kms) and the motor “hiccuped” once, the motor pretty much stopping for a second or two whilst I was driving at about 100km/h on the flat. This happened a second time a few minutes later and then the ute ran fine for the rest of the day whilst I ran around town on business.
Driving home up the mountain range in the afternoon the motor started running a bit rough and then losing power as I reached the top of the mountain. I figured that the fuel filter was blocking and I knew to expect this. A couple of times the motor lost so much power that I though that I’d have to pull over but then it would pick up again.
When I got home I drained the sedimenter/water trap and took out about a table spoon of water. I went for a quick drive and she was still running like a hairy goat. The next day I replaced the fuel filter and found that there was some water in it as well as flakes of red paint and other gunge. I also drained the sedimenter completely and found it full of similar rubbish. After this I took it for a drive and found that she was much better although still down a little bit on power. The next morning I found she was hard to start and only got a few hundred metres down the road before I had to pull off the road due to almost complete power loss.:(
Towed it home later in the day and removed the fuel filter, tipped out a bit of the diesel and replaced it with injector cleaner and tried running the motor. Barely ran and wouldn’t rev above 900 rpm. Today I blew compressed air back through the fuel line to the tank to make sure there were no blockages there, there weren’t and I wasn’t really expecting there to be as I was thinking the worst by now.
I rang a diesel specialist and told him my tale of woe. The local tow truck operator/workshop owner is coming around tommorrow to take the ute down to the specialist who thinks I will probably need to have the injector pump overhauled completely. He also thinks the BD may have played a large part in this sudden and premature demise. The repair bill is probably going to be in the $2-2.5K region.:(
As a self employed carpenter/cabinetmaker I need the ute to make $$. On a slightly positive note the jobs I’m currently working on are both in my workshop which is less than 100M from my house and I’ve been able to borrow a small car as a run around. The local workshop has a subaru brumby ute which they’ll hire out to me for the grand sum of $10 per day if I need it (including a bottle of oil with which to top the engine up with:rolleyes:) They’ve even said they’ll let me borrow it for free if I look over their kitchen for them as they’re planning on a major renovation.:)
Any comments appreciated,
Mick

I am the new kid on the block and have a couple of questions ref Bio Diesel.
I’m looking at purchasing a TDi Disco and then running it on Bio Diesel, the model am looking at will be 2002 to 2004 model.
Is it worth my while to look at running it souly on Bio and will I need to do anything to the tune etc of the car to get it to run on it?
Will running Bio diesel change the ltrs per km or what?
Also am not sure on the availability of the product here on the Gold Coast.
Have also been looking at a site and company called veggiecars and what they offer, the ability to run on fish and chip oil. Has anyone used or heard what these guys are like?
I would appreciate any feedback from the group and look forward to chatting further with everyone.
Owen

Description:
Hydrogen has been widely considered as a potentially viable alternative to fossil fuels for use in transportation. In addition to price competitiveness with fossil fuels, a key to its adoption will be public perceptions of hydrogen technologies and hydrogen fuel. This paper examines public perceptions of riders of a hydrogen hybrid internal combustion engine bus and hydrogen as a fuel source. Read more…
